Donesha Collier, MA

Hello everyone!!! My name is Donesha Collier, I am a graduate from Adler University where I received a masters in Couples and Family Therapy. I was born and raised on the west side of Chicago and understand what its like being a young, urban millennial trying to just navigate life and the many complexities that come with that. Throughout my career I have spent time facilitating parenting groups, girls groups and working with children and teens.

Therapy with me offers a space that will allow you to process your life experiences, understand yourself more deeply, formulate radical acceptance of self, learn how to manage life problems by developing coping skills and learn to thrive even in the midst of chaos. Therapy with me creates a space where you will be free to rewrite the narrative that is your life. I accomplish this by utilizing Narrative Therapy which believes that the stories that we tell ourselves shapes our lives and impacts how we process situations, thoughts, emotions, and how we present to the world. By helping you change your thoughts thus changing your narrative, you will have the opportunity to walk away feeling in control of your thoughts, emotions and the trajectory of you life.

My role as a therapist is to help strengthen the family system. I believe it is important to encourage others to rely on their strengths and their innate ability to survive and thrive to manage the problems they face and to be able to see themselves separate from the problem. As a therapist my responsibility lies in creating a safe space where you are free to explore issues of social justice, race, class, ability, sex, gender and other ism’s that impact life. As a therapist I will help guide the process for you to explore any life experiences, emotions, thoughts, and trauma.  I will maintain a safe, warm, caring, authentic, transparent and empowering space.
