Hello! I’m Tamara Burse and I am thrilled that you’ve found me here at Phoenix Rising Counseling & Guidance, LLC. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and believe all individuals deserve care, compassion, empathy, and a safe space in which to tell their story. Therapy with me is a sacred space and opportunity for you to be heard and respected. I value the relationship as fundamental in therapy and the foundation for change. I bring my authentic self to each therapeutic relationship and look forward to meeting the unmasked authentic version of you!
I am a native Chicagoan and grew up in Roseland, on the far Southside. I have spent the last two decades serving in varied settings including high schools, elementary school, residential treatment, community mental health facilities, and community agencies. I have worked with survivors of sexual assault between the ages of 3-17 and their non-offending family members and having spent 14 years and counting in Chicago Public Schools, I’ve learned that my absolute passion is adolescence and young adulthood. My experience has provided me skills to support sexual assault survivors, trauma, crisis intervention, life transitions, relationship and family issues, anxiety, emotional regulation, school-related issues, and individual growth. I’ve served culturally diverse women, young adults, adolescents and children individually and in groups and I welcome families and couples.
My therapeutic approach is collaborative and I utilize therapeutic techniques from person-centered therapy, solution-focused therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy and dialectical behavioral therapy while using a strengths perspective and remaining conscious of larger social, cultural, spiritual, and economic factors that make you uniquely you. My mission as your therapist is to meet you where you are, acknowledge your personal resilience, explore your past and its connection to your present and future, identify recurring patterns in your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors and create a plan for change. We will do the hard work to help you heal, grow stronger, become more self-aware and develop into the best version of yourself!
I welcome the opportunity to work with you and help you to Heal, Rise and Soar!
