Dr. Brittany Matthews, TLLP, LPC, NCC

Notice: This clinician provides telehealth services but is not currently accepting new clients while completing her clinical psychology postdoctoral fellowship.

Hello and welcome to Phoenix Rising Counseling & Guidance! My name is Brittany Matthews, and I look forward to assisting you in your wellness journey!

I was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois, where I discovered my passion for mental health and my purpose: helping people become the best versions of themselves. In pursuit of professional development, I have earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Howard University, a Master of Science degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from National Louis University, a Master of Arts degree in Clinical Psychology from Adler University, and a Doctor of Psychology degree in Clinical Psychology with an Emphasis in Traumatic Stress Psychology from Adler University. I am also a National Certified Counselor, a Licensed Professional Counselor in Illinois and Ohio, and a Master's Limited Psychologist (Temporary) in Michigan. As I work toward becoming licensed as a psychologist, I strive to continually expand my knowledge and refine my practice to better serve underserved and historically marginalized individuals and communities.

Clinically, I have worked with individuals and groups presenting with behavioral, emotional, developmental, intellectual, academic, occupational, legal, substance use, and trauma-related issues. I have assisted clients with grief, depression, addiction, anxiety, adjustment, adverse experiences, negative self-perceptions, cognitive distortions, interpersonal problems, communication difficulties, life dissatisfaction, and other everyday obstacles. I use several evidence-based therapeutic interventions and integrate relevant approaches and techniques to personalize treatment for each unique client. My therapeutic alliances are safe spaces for clients to explore, understand, challenge, and care for themselves. My main objectives are to support clients' health, encourage positive life changes, and promote psychological growth.

I enjoy helping people manage their problems, amplify their strengths, and broaden their perspectives. My values include psychological health, holistic wellness, self-care, social connectedness, and social justice, which I believe are all essential for balanced living. In my opinion, no matter how insufferable life may seem or how unfortunate circumstances are, we all have some responsibility and control to facilitate change. Thus, I guide clients toward discovering and utilizing their personal power through self-awareness, self-reflection, and decision-making. Together, we can collaborate to improve your well-being, personal development, and life satisfaction.

I am delighted that you are interested in Phoenix Rising Counseling & Guidance, and I welcome the opportunity to enhance your ability to heal, rise, and soar!
