Juton Strickland, LPC

Welcome to Phoenix Rising! My name is Juton D. Strickland. I am a dedicated and empathetic therapist who has devoted her career to supporting the mental health and well-being of African American teenagers. Growing up on the South Side of Chicago, I have a deep understanding of the unique challenges faced by the youth in my community. With a passion for helping young individuals navigate their formative years, in practice I have focused on those aged 13 to 24, guiding them to realize their dreams, communicate more effectively, and develop a better understanding of their emotions.

My academic journey began at Trinity Christian College, where I earned both my bachelors and masters degrees in counseling psychology. I am currently a doctoral candidate in the Ph.D. Counselor Education & Supervision program at National Louis University. My educational pursuits have provided me with a strong foundation in psychological theories and counseling techniques, equipping me to address a wide range of mental health issues; specifically anger, anxiety, and depression. I employ a compassionate approach to therapy, fostering a safe and supportive environment for my clients to explore their feelings and experiences.

In addition to my expertise in general mental health, I am also trained in adoption trauma, which has allowed me to offer specialized support to individuals who have experienced the complex emotions associated with adoption. My holistic approach to therapy is further enhanced by my involvement in crisis response through the CARES program with the Chicago Department of Public Health, where I provide immediate assistance to those experiencing crises within the Chicagoland area. This aspect of my work underscores my commitment to being a reliable source of support

for my clients and those in community mental health, even in the most challenging situations.

Through my practice, I aim to empower my clients to overcome obstacles and build the resilience needed to thrive. My deep connection and roots in Chicago, along with my comprehensive training enable me to address the specific cultural and social factors that influence the lives of African American youth. By helping my clients develop effective communication skills and a profound understanding of their emotions, I play a pivotal role in guiding them toward a brighter and more fulfilling future.
