Shivani Sharma, Clinical Intern

My name is Shivani Sharma, and I am a Clinical Mental Health Counseling Student at Northwestern University. My counseling philosophy emphasizes client empowerment and unconditional positive regard for those with whom I work. I approach the therapeutic space with a culturally competent, integrative, individualized, and social justice oriented lens. 

Through my role as Vice President of the DEI Student Advisory Board in the Northwestern Counseling program, I work to understand and develop ways to uplift the voices of marginalized people. My goal is to create a safe space where you feel comfortable and empowered in exploring your identity and feel supported through your healing. I will meet you where you are in your healing journey, wherever that might be, and will continue to travel with you on that journey, side-by-side.

Prior to pursuing my MA in Counseling, I have received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the State University of New York at Buffalo. This background working in corporate allows me the ability to understand the injustices and challenges that come with working within a capitalist system that is built to oppress the progress and voices of marginalized people. I have also worked in community crisis counseling providing psychoeducation, individual and group support, and interacting with underserved, marginalized communities during the pandemic, which allowed me to see the impact of the pandemic on these communities. After completing my master’s degree, I hope to continue working with and advocating for marginalized, underserved communities.
