Nia Lennan, LSW

Welcome to Phoenix Rising! My name is Nia Lennan. As a therapist, I am committed to serving communities of color, being a Black woman from the South Side of Chicago myself. I strive to provide a nourishing, non-judgmental space where you can be yourself. It is not uncommon to walk through your days feeling the need to perform, serve, and/or accommodate others, but the therapeutic space is for you. This is a space to de-mask and be the version of yourself you have had to hide or silence. 

While working together, we can discuss recent feelings of anxiety and depression, a desire for a life change, frustration with societal circumstances, relationship and family stressors, as well as the processing of traumatic experiences. These are all challenges I have discussed with clients in the past and feel confident in my ability to assist and work with you on. 

I received my Master's in Social Work from the University of Chicago, where I learned the skills of several therapeutic modalities such as CBT, DBT, ACT, and psychodynamic theory with a relational cultural lens. I also have experience working in hospital settings such as Rush University Medical Center and Northwestern Memorial Hospital. During my time at Rush, I was trained by leading psychologists in Narrative Exposure Therapy, a trauma-focused treatment that I have continued to utilize with those who live with PTSD. I have conducted trauma-focused and trauma-informed therapy with clients throughout the lifespan, as I have also worked with children navigating the foster care system. I hope to utilize all the skills I have developed to ensure a beneficial therapy experience, no matter how long we work together. I look forward to learning more about you as we collaborate in your process to Heal, Rise & Soar!
